Research and References

    For my second project this year, I decided to go for the Captain's Table and make another 3D environment, only this time focusing more on the props and the details. But also, I've found myself enjoying making visual effects quite a lot this year because I've been becoming a lot more familiar with the more technical side of art. So because of that, I also wanted to incorporate some effects in my scene too. 

    The theme that I'm going for this time is pirates - my captain is going to be the leader of a pirate fleet. As usual, I began by doing some research in order to familiarise myself better with what type environments pirates lived in, with what type of props pirates kept around on daily basics. The very first character that popped into my mind when I thought about someone that's both a captain and a pirate is Miss Fortune from League of Legends. She's a character that I really like.

    This is how I came to the conclusion that what I would like to make is an asset environment that's going to be for the female captain of a pirate fleet.

    Below, I'm going to insert the mood board that I made before I started modelling any assets. 

    

    I always like start a project by making mood and reference boards first, before even blocking anything out because I feel like this makes it a lot easier for me to imagine what sort of assets I would like to have in my scene and think about how I would like to arrange them.

    What I'm planning to start with is modelling one of the main aspects in my scene - the table. These are the two references that I found on Google Search and quite liked.
