Haunted House Project - Block Out

Once I was done establishing the overall settings and aesthetics that I was going for, I started putting together both a mood board and a reference board. The mood board I put together because I wanted to have a good example of what sort of atmosphere I would like to create in my environment, and the reference board I put together too because I wanted to have a better understanding of what sort of assets I would like to populate my environment with.

Once I was done putting my mood and my reference boards together, I started blocking out my 3D Haunted House environment in 3Ds Max. I started blocking out by using mostly cubes and cylinders because I wanted to play around with the space first and see what layout I liked the most. In the meantime, I had in mind for example what cube represents a table and what cylinder represents a wine bottle, so I spaced around those most basic objects in order to see how I would like the furniture to be arranged as well.

Below, I'm going to insert some of the screenshots that I took after I built that basic block out for my environment in 3Ds Max.

I focused on making sure that the main assets I had in mind and wanted to have in my scene all had a place from the very beginning – those assets were the bookshelf, the fireplace, the table and the sofas, the piano and the windows. The rest of the assets I'm going to figure out on the go, depending on how the atmosphere starts building up. Since I'm done blocking out, the next step is to now start modelling my assets properly and slowly start importing my scene in Unreal Engine.
